Needless to say that we are very honored and proud that our video will be part of this fantastic event!

.Cinema Bochén in "Die Presse am Sonntag" ...and more!

15.10.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

Cinema Bochén is in the news again! This time, we were invited by Austrian newspaper 'Die Presse' to participate in their 'Freiraum' series, where every week young people from the creative industries get the possibility to design a whole page of the newspaper however they like.

We had the idea to create a bunch of differnet cut out characters, props, a dinosaur (rawr!), special effects and whatnot that the bored and/or motivated reader could use to create a short animated movie with. A scan of the page is available here if you want to take a look at it and maybe even try for yourself!

We also promised that if someone really would do a short film with it and send it to us we would feature it here on our site. And who would have thought! We really got two submissions!

The first one is from 11 year old Anna, who made an adorable short stop motion animation that by the name of 'Love by Accident' featuring a couple, a gun, a ghost, a dinosaur (rawr!) a car crash and of course: love!

Thank you Anna, we loved your film!

The second film we've received is a charming and hilarious music video by Bruno Skorepa called Mama geh her. Bruno also composed and performed the song featured in the video, dealing with an everyday problem that concerns everyone of us: the difficulties one can run into on the way home from the pub. It's in viennese dialect but you can rest assured that it is indeed very funny if you are unable to understand a word.

Thank you very much for this Bruno, we really enjoyed the film and laughed a lot!

Speaking of which... Do you like Star Wars? Silly question, I know, because of course you do! Who doesn't? Well, in this case we strongly urge you to visit Bruno's website where you can watch even more hilarious animated music videos, all of them featuring our beloved green Jedi master from the swamps of Dagobah: Yoda!

Check them out here, they are great!

So thanks again to "Die Presse" for the opportunity and of course to Bruno and Anna, who invested much time and effort to create these two animated gems!

.New Music Video by Mirjam Baker and Michael Kren soon!

22.8.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

We are very happy to announce that Mirjam and Mike started working on a new music video, for Austrian electronic Band 'I am Cereals'!

The video will be for the first single of their new album, following their self titled debut from 2009, which was also nominated for Austrian music award 'Amadeus'.

We don't want to spoil too much about the video yet, other than it will again be an animation, this time a stop motion animation with self made puppets and sets and that it will tell a short story.

We are very much looking forward to working on the video and with the band!

You'll have to be patient for a little more though, because the single and the video won't be out until December. But you know what they say: anticipation is the greatest pleasure!

In the meantime, you can check out the band's website and even buy their debut album here!

.Die Spektakelmaschine as a supporting film!

20.8.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

Starting on September 10th, Mirjam and Mike's very first animation "Die Spektakelmaschine", which later became the official video for Zoot Woman's 'We Won't Break' will be screened at the charming 'Filmcasino' for two whole weeks as a supporting film for a feature film.

We are very happy about this, since we think that the supporting movie is a very nice tradition that should be kept alive or, probably more accurate, reanimated (no brain eating involved, though).

Also, this is a great and rare opportunity to see "Die Spektakelmaschine", which features additional scenes (well, it's actually only one, but I always wanted to say it this way) and a different Zoot Woman song as the soundtrack! So don't miss this historical opportunity, or you're going to regret it your whole life (right?!)!

Mirjam and Mike will be at the first screening on September 10th, so drop by if you'd like to have a beer and a chat!

We even provided a handy internet link to the website of Filmcasino here

It's finally summertime and we all know what this means, right? Exactly, open air cinema! There probably is no better way to spend a lush summer evening under the starry sky than with a couple of friends and a cold beverage of your choice, in a comfortable seat watching great films on the big screen accompanied by the soft chirping of crickets...

Well, since we've got you in the mood now, why don't you join us on Friday, August 27th at the beautiful 'Gartenpalais Schönborn' in Vienna? 'We Won't Break' will be screened in course of 'Espressofilm' film festival in the special "FM4 Garden Sessions" programme, where our favorite radio station FM4 put together an 80 minutes long programme with selected music videos from Austria. Hah, we'll see what the crickets will say about this!

It's going to be free entry too, so you have no excuse not to come, really. Well ok, maybe if you are not from around here but Vienna is just lovely at this time of the year!

.Love goes through the stomach!

8.8.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

Last week, the 'Shortynale' short film festival in Klosterneuburg, Austria was held, with the charming theme 'All you need is love'. 'Memory' was running in the competition too, which makes us very happy, because the Shortynale was one of the nicest festivals we've been to, actually.
Very nice people and a great, relaxed atmosphere, even the popcorn at the theater had just the right amount of salt on it.

Austrian Oscar winning director Stefan Ruzowitzky was there as well, talking about his career and experiences. One of his dearest hobbies (next to making films of course) is, in fact, cooking and after the screenings he made a delicious (and spicy!) asian wok meal for the film makers and the whole audience!

So, have you ever eaten a meal prepared by an Oscar winning director? Well, we have!

We had a great time and are already looking forward to the next Shortynale!

.Memory is big in Japan!

23.6.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

Today we found out that our video for 'Memory' seems to be quite popular in Japan! So popular in fact, that someone made a hommage to it and created his own version of the video! In this version, being from Japan and all, the protagonist doesn't use slides to remember his lost love, but a Nintendo DS handheld and his object of desire is actually a 3D animated girl from the game 'Love Plus' (well, actually it seems to be a 'dating simulation'...), which seems to be wildly popular in Japan.

So popular in fact, that the video accumulated 400.000 Views on the japanese video portal 'nicovideo' in just under 10 days and even Yahoo! Japan wrote a news article about it. Wow, who would have imagined? We feel very honored and flattered!

You'll need an account to watch the video on nicovideo, which can be a bit hard to create because of the language barrier.

But luckily for us Gaijins, it has found its way to YouTube, too. You can watch it here.

24.5.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

Hey, it's festival time again! This time we are very happy to announce that Memory will be in the Austrian competition at the 'Vienna Independent Shorts', a very charming and respected festival!

But if this wouldn't be cool enough, this time Mirjam was also invited to attend a panel discussion about the state of Austrian animated film! We are all very proud of her! The other participants in the discussion are Thomas Renoldner, Wiktoria Pelzer and Sigi A. Fruhauf, all of them being respected figures of the Austrian animation scene and Barbara Fränzen from Austria's ministry of art and culture.

Memory will be screened on May 28th in the Metro Kino at 6pm and the panel discussion will be on May 30th at 4.30pm also in the Metro Kino.

So make sure to drop by if you'd like to see the video on the big screen or if you want to join us pulling faces at Mirjam from the audience to distract her!

.GoTV - We're part of it!

20.5.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

We are very excited to announce that Mirjam and Mike have been invited by Austrian music television channel 'gotv' to host one of their "Hosted by" shows! Meaning that Mirjam and Mike have a full hour at their disposal to show you, the beloved audience, twelve hand picked music videos that they love. Pretty cool, isn't it?

We feel very honored because we love gotv (in fact, it is the best music television channel in german speaking territory) and because normally only famous musicians are given that honor. So wow, we're going to sit on the same couch as 'insert name of your favourite artist here' did!

But not everything is fun and games, because it was in fact very hard to pick the videos. It was like having to make a mixtape for all the beautiful girls in the world at the same time while having to additionally draw little pictures for every song that are supposed to go well together, too! Yeah, I know, life can be really hard sometimes!

So, I guess you are all hot and bothered now to see the show but sadly you'll have to wait until 9pm at July 28th 2010 to see it. Unfair, I know, but isn't anticipation one of the greatest joys?

In the meantime, you can check out gotv's website here

.Memory wins the Golden Victoria for best Music Video!

16.4.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

Good news everyone!

We're back from the 'Internationale Wirtschaftsfilmtage' in Vienna (ok, it wasn't THAT far away but let's just say that we are sober again) and are very happy to report that Memory won 'Best Music Video'! How cool is that?

We are very proud of the award, the stylish and very heavy (!) Golden Victoria, especially because one of our competitors was a video for Austrian legend Falco by Rudi Dolezal who is famous for directing music videos for artists like Queen, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Michael Jackson and multiple other bands of this caliber. So yeah, it's very cool!

Strangely enough though, neither David Bowie nor Mick Jagger called yet, they surely must have misplaced our number...

.Widerstand in Haiderland!

30.1.2010, posted by Cinema Bochén

Widerstand in Haiderland is the new documentary by our professor, friend and award winning director Frederick Baker. The film deals with the rather sad political situation in Austria in early 2000, where the conservative ÖVP was able to form a coalition with Jörg Haider's right wing FPÖ, leading to a time of international political isolation and shame for Austria but also to months and months of weekly demonstrations against this government - the "Donnerstagsdemos".

So why are we telling you all this? Because Cinema Bochén contributed a bit of animation to the film! So there you have another great reason to go to the theater and see it!

Widerstand in Haiderland will premiere on thursday, February 4th, on the date of the 10th anniversary of Schwarz/Blau - that's how the coalition of ÖVP and FPÖ was called - in the Filmcasino in Vienna.
